Tips for workers in selected occupations

Woodworkers. Use gloves to protect against splinters when you’re handling wood, but not near rotating blades or other moving parts where they can catch and cause injury.

Truck drivers. More trucks are involved in crashes in work zones than are other vehicles. Avoid work zones is possible. If you can’t, drive slowly and watch for signs.

Desk workers. If your legs go numb, it’s probably the chair cutting blood circulation. You need a higher footrest or a down-sloping seating area.

Construction workers. Hard hats save lives. Don’t wear head protection because it’s a safety rule but because you care about your own safety.

Food service employees. Germs abound in restrooms. Wash your hands when you leave a restroom even if you just went in to adjust your uniform.

Biking commuters. Don’t face the traffic. Ride with it on the right side of the road. Bicycles may not be prohibited on sidewalks in your town, but be careful.

Electrical workers. Always test every circuit and every conductor every time before you touch it.
